Building Public Gardens Committed to Demonstration and Education

2019  Event Calendar

Every year the Durango Botanical Society (DBS) sponsors several educational events.  There will be a minimal charge for some of these events and others will be at no charge.

The 'Tips for Trees' event is in partnership with the CSU La Plata County Extension Office, as is the 'Budding Authors' series.  We are requesting submission of your poetry, fun or educational articles about gardening in the Durango area along with any pictures you want to submit.  We will then take a few months to assemble a book that will be available to the public.  Stay tuned for more information on the publishing date.

La Plata Extension and DBS have both joined with the Durango Library to offer the 'Great Garden Series'.  A compilation of classes that will be free to the public throughout the summer.  Check the calendar for these events.

Every Saturday morning from May through September, garden maintenance is performed in both the Demonstration Garden and the new Arboreta.  Want to experience that wonderful smell of freshly turned earth?  Come and join us at 9:00 am during May and 8:00 am from June through September for maintenance and installing new plantings.

Don't want to get your hands dirty?  Feel free to come and talk with a Docent who can give you a tour or answer your gardening questions.  Visit at any time on your own as the flowers in bloom change with the seasons.
